BUZZE GEVEN
Project details
May - June 2023
Type of project: Group design challenge Hogeschool Rotterdam & Devine Kortrijk
Proces: Define/ Ideate/ Prototype / Testing
Final Product: Website & screens in bus
Research question:
''How can we connect the youth (16-25 year) and inspire them in an interactive way to take part in the route to Kortrijk 2023?''

As a target group, we chose the youth of Kortrijk between the age of 16 and 25. Their problems are ignorance and the high threshold. Also they don't feel heared in their city and they miss a trigger to change something about that.
Target group
Research & Proces
Our client was the municipality of Kortrijk. The question was to involve and keep involving young people in the nomination process (2024) for Kortrijk's candidacy as European Capital of Culture in 2030. Our team consisted of Noa, Laurence, Eva and me. Laurance and Eva were students from Belgium. They worked on this project for 5 days a week and Noa and I (the students from Hogeschool Rotterdam) only two. The students of Devine were also advanced in animating and programming, we learned from their skills and because of that we could create a working product.
At first we started with doing research. Besides fieldresearch we did deskresearch about the european capital of culture, involving the youth and cultural elements in Kortrijk. We made a mindmap, multiple sketches and came up with 3 concepts, to get ideas from the target group related to culture. We later presented our 3 concepts based on the research and surveys . We did this in Antwepen at a company called; November 5. After this we found out that we needed to make our concept more suitable for the target group. After some brainstorming we decided to create a community and to literaly go to the youth, to make it more accesible. Here started the idea of our bus. Step by step we worked out our product, did interiews and also a couple of tests.

Story behind Buzze Geven
With our van, we want to make it easier for young people in the region of Kortrijk to express and share their opinions/ideas. Furthermore, it is low-threshold and the bus gets your attention. Every six months, we choose a different theme and for each theme, the bus visits appropriate locations. All of them related to the Capital of Culture. In the bus, they can participate in an interactive and fun way through interactive questions. After each theme, there will be a final work (e.g. a work of art created by a local artist) . You can find this somewhere in the city, and it is based on the opinions of the young people, in this way they will really see their own opinion. Furthermore we set up a campaign to raise awareness and provide more information about the European Capital of Culture. On our website, young people can see the bus route and share their ideas through the suggestion box.
*The screens in the bus and the website are designed by my teammates Eva and Laurance.
Noa and I mostly worked on doing the research. Further we did brainstorming and contibuted to coming up with the ideas. I came up with the design principles and stakeholdersmap. Noa and I also did tests together and we set up the social media campain. I also made the timeline of the first two themes of our bus, I later discussed this with Eva.
